[Funny how there are some people out there that hope and want no one to notice them. Funny how in doing so, they end up attracting attention anyways.

At least that's what Riku's been thinking for the past few days. It's hard not to notice the absence of one particular teenager when the teachers do roll call every class. One name in particular always garners whispers and comments whenever the owner doesn't respond. He might not participate much in the comments beyond a few to Sora and Kairi on occasion. But Riku finds himself more concerned about the owner than judgemental.

After all, this is just about the... what was it, tenth time this year and it's just early May, that Roxas has inexplicably been absent. It didnt seem like he had a chronic illness or anything, but it was frequent enough to appear like it. And it didn't seem like anyone was curious enough to ask him if he was okay.

That's why when the seemingly grumpy loner kid comes back, Riku's curiosity is at its peak. He fibs a little at the end of the day to Sora and Kairi, telling them that he needs to train on campus for the basketball team for next year. Of course he gets weird looks from Kairi, they both know it'll be a while before the season starts up again, but otherwise the two of them leave for home without Riku.

Well he does have different plans than training. Waiting just long enough to notice that the blonde kid was starting to head off himself, Riku hops onto his bike and tails him. With his contacts in, it's easy to keep his distance so that Roxas won't notice and not lose sight of him.

But when he starts going out far, further out of the town, Riku starts to wonder just what he's getting himself into...]

[A blush? From being threatened to be sat on? Either Riku had a kink he's trying to hide, or having someone that physically close might be the reason. Roxas watches as Riku texts everyone before a sly grin comes onto his face. Just to mess with Riku, he leans down and nuzzles the others neck, then pulls away.]

I'll be back.

[Time to go get Riku some food. Protein would be good, so that's what he's going to go get.]

[He's more focused on his texts than he is of his surroundings, so the touch makes his skin prickle and hair on the back of his neck stand on end. Head snapping up, the blush returns, but this time accompanied with a glare in the vampire's direction.

What is it with this guy and getting close? Can't a human have his own space? Sheesh...

He keeps glaring at Roxas's back as he leaves, only mumbling when he hears the vampire exit.]

Jerk...

[When in the house with a vampire, learn to accept random affection. Roxas is in a good mood after the meal and feeling far less sleepy than he thought he would despite the yawning. He licks his lips as he gets the other food, finding that maybe he likes the taste of Riku more than he thought he would.

Apparently Roxas went to McDonalds, sitting right in Riku's lap and opening the bag.]

You taste like you need more iron and protein, so I got you the biggest burger they had. And fries. Humans like fries apparently. The drink I asked the girl what was popular and she just said coke.

[Oh great. Fast food. This is just what he needs.

Riku's pre-occupying himself with a light game on his phone in order to keep himself awake. His body is yelling at him to sleep, not necessarily feeling hungry even though his stomach is empty, but he can't say he likes the idea of Roxas coming home to a sleeping human. For one, it feels a little rude, and who knows what would happen to him before Roxas goes home. He might have a nosy neighbour or two that could drop by.

Forcing himself to stay awake was the best option right now. Although being graced with a vampire on his lap yer a-goddamn-gain was getting tiresome.

No blushes this time, he's getting too tired to care. But he will be glaring daggers at the back of the blonde's head when he isn't looking.]

Can't you at least sound like you know what teenagers like? [It's so weird and misleading. One moment he's talking about homework, the next he doesn't know that coke is the most popular drinks out there. Does being a vampire really isolate you that much?

He grabs at the burger first. Protein would honestly help him get his energy back. The drink wouldn't be his preference to be honest, so he doesn't touch it much.]

[Huffing at Riku, Roxas stays in his lap to make sure the other eats.] I was turned before soda was invented. Before phosphates were even a thing. So excuse me for not knowing what tastes good.

[If that reveals his age, so be it. Phosphate sodas were invented in 1870, so he's been around quite a while.]

Don't thank me. This is to keep you from getting sick. Some of my food gets really bad anemia after a bite and I've had a few die because they didn't eat for a while after. There's a secretion we let out to enhance blood flow through our fangs that some people react bad to. [He took a fry and played with it, bending it till it broke in half.] Human bodies are weird... I don't even remember what it was like.

No wonder you talk like an old man.

[Riku's hardly scared of any repercussions for that comment, merely munching on his burger. Having someone in his lap is a hit of a distraction but he's trying his best to ignore him and avoid eye contact as much as he can.

But the answer makes him think. Roxas has to be old, so he didnt grow up or experience the same sorts of things. Probably has no clue what food taste like now either. Riku doubts the vampire would be curious enough on his own to try and human food.]

...I'm thanking you because you didn't have to anything, and I would have been fine with that too. [Roxas seal up the wound at least, so Riku is more than aware that he wouldn't bleed to death. But he knows there's no obligation on the vampire's part to take care of him.] If it was that long ago, then no wonder. It's not weird to us though.

What? Because I speak properly? You might wanna pick that up if you want people to respect you for more than being a jock.

[If Riku knew that this was a relaxed way of speaking for Roxas, his mind might blow up. At least the blond is trying not to speak how he was brought up to speak.

And no thanks on the trying human foods. The last time that was attempted, he became violently ill and missed a week of classes.]

You're a classmate, so I feel like I am obligated to help. To keep suspicion low. It's for your benefit as much as mine. [Reading the ingredients label on the ketchup package now.] Right... I did notice that there is far more chemicals in food than there used to be. That can't be healthy.

[Riku's eyes narrow every so slightly, but not for the reasons the other might think. It's the jock remark that gets to him a little. He hates the label-- any label really, and hates that others see him as just that.

At least that's how he feels behind closed doors. At school itself, it's harder to express himself and how he really feels.

He laughs a little though.] So what, are you going to go all Shakespearean on my ass? It helps to fit in if you sound like everyone else.

[Burger now demolished, Riku reaches out for the fries but only nibbles on them lightly. The burger was filling but even though he just let a vampire make a meal of him, he still wants to keep his carb intake low. Old habits die hard.]

No, but some places try more than others. That why I don't get fast food all that much. Sora likes it more than I do.

[His eyes flick back to Roxas's, tone calm but curious.] So your food...? Is that what I am now?

I don't like Shakespeare. Too dry and the humor is so old fashioned. I wouldn't be caught dead talking like a stiff.

[Human food is so weird... The only time Roxas can taste it even a little is in his victim's blood, but the taste is more salt and sugar levels among other things.

He looks calmly at Riku before a grin pops up on his lips.] Well, if you don't want me to bite anyone you know, then yeah.

[Leaning over, just to mess with Riku, he presses a kiss to the bitemark.] Plus... even if you want to deny it, all bite victims have one thing in common. [The grin is still very much there.] After the pain is over from the initial bite, you feel pleasure, even if you're not into biting.

But you are a stiff. [Or a bloodsucking zombie at least. Riku smirks.] You could stand to loosen up your speech a bit more. Might help you fit in better.

[As much as he probably should eat, Riku stops, leaving half a bag of fries and the drink too. Maybe he'll eat them later, but right now he doesn't have much of an appetite after the greasy burger.

Both comments get a glare out of him though. He can't say he likes the idea of being claimed as someone's good, but he likes the idea of Kairi or Sora or someone else being treated the same way. The kiss though is what seals the deal, making him flush furiously but reach over and push Roxas's face away.

Jerk. He doesn't have to get that close to him.]

Doubt that'll happen.

What? You're making proper speech sound like a crime. [Sorry. He doesn't want to sound like a braindead idiot.

Roxas laughs as he's pushed away, grabbing Riku's wrist. He puts his lips against the inside of the wrist, feeling the pulse. He could have bitten this spot easily. But with Riku being Riku, the neck bite was more to be an aggravation.]

Just be glad you're too stubborn to be made into a Thrall. They beg to be bitten.

[He gets up, letting Riku go, before regarding him with a blank expression.] I'll wake you when it's safe to leave.

[He chuckles half-heartedly. Seems like he's touched a nerve there. Riku doesn't think he'd sound like an idiot (or that he talks like an idiot either).]

It's not. Trust me. [Riku's been in enough locker rooms and listening to enough actual jocks to know that proper speech is a rarity. It's nice to have someone he can talk to like this. But it's just something that can easily get under Roxas's skin.] But it might help you lighten up a bit.

[Any smiles ot amusement is drained away when Roxas grabs his hand. Admittedly, he is a little unnerved by how close the vampire is to his pulse and veins and he just watches with a careful gaze, half expecting Roxas to just plant his fangs into his skin.

Eyes narrow.] ...I prefer not to be made into anything. Thrall or anything else.

[There's a pause and a moment where he's just staring at Roxas, trying to get a read. Why didn't he bite him? Why is he being nice?

Riku grabs at the pillow, fluffing it a little in his hands. Sleep sounds like a good idea.]

...Thank, I guess...

I don't need to lighten up around people I'll outlive. Eventually the way I talk will come back into fashion.

[Trends come and go. Plus, being as old as Roxas is with constant change around him? It makes going along with it tiring sometimes. It's nothing against humans, just that their short lives calls for too much change.

Riku would make the worst thrall. Having him a sa willing food source would do for now till Roxas finds a way to wipe the others memories. Or charm the other into being less fight-y. Neither seem like good options, but it was better than potentially having a hunter come after him.]

Try not to let the noises outside bother you too much. Nothing will come in here without my permission.

[Roxas is off to go "sleep". Leaving Riku to his own devices till about six in the morning.]

[Trends and customs do come and go, but the way Roxas says it makes Riku focus on something else. It does make him feel small, but not disposable. No. Instead he focuses on something else.]

Maybe not. But sounds kind of lonely if you ask me.

[It's a good thing Riku can't read thoughts. While he sounds rather adamant about staying the same, the idea of changing his memories wouldn't sit well with him. He'd rather stay a food source if it were up to him.

A stubborn food source anyways.

There's a tired nod and a sigh once he figures the blond can't hear it. Fixing the pillow behind his head and flipping down on the couch, it doesn't take long for Riku to fall into a deep sleep.

In fact, it might be a little too deep. While he's used to getting up early, he may still be snoozing peacefully a little after six, one arm hanging off the couch and the other covering his eyes.]

Being what I am means I'll always be lonely. I'm a monster after all.

[Roxas knows what he is, what will happen, how he'll end. It's just the way things are. Monsters are monsters. Riku had many choices in life, could live it to the fullest. Roxas was stuck in the life he has. There's no freedom in being something that hunts other living beings.

And good. If the blond were more honest, he'd admit he appreciates stubborn.

When six am comes along and Roxas finds Riku deep asleep, he thinks of how to wake the other. He tries by tugging on the hanging arm. If that doesn't work, he'll poke Riku's cheeks. That not working will force Roxas to lay his ever cold body on top of Riku's, hoping the chill would wake the other up. Don't make him do something drastic.]

Are you gonna wake up?

[Riku would argue with him if he could. Argue that Roxas has just as many choices and opportunities as he does, but even then, Riku knows that's a bold-faced lie. He's not always as optimistic as his friends, but he has his moments. And he doesn't think that Roxas has to be alone.

It would make for a sad existence.

There's no need to do anything drastic, although a cold body would instantly wake him up. No, he feels the tugging on his arm and the pokes to his cheeks make him stir a little, dropping the arm covering his face and raising the other one up...

And behind...

To grab at the pillow behind him and whack Roxas in the face with it.]

Knock it off, Sora.

[Whoops. He still might be asleep a little...]

[......

That was a bad idea. That poor pillow is going to be torn apart now and Riku's wrist grabbed.]

Don't. Ever. Call. Me. That. Again.

[Just to make a point, he bites Riku's hand.]

[Eyes snap open and Riku's quick to sit up and pull his hand back, no doubt unhappy by the rude awakening.]

What the hell!

[God he was half asleep and was staying over at Sora's again for the weekend...?

...

This really isn't Sora's place though, is it? Someone forgot he spent the night at a vampire's lair.]

[Huff huff Roxas is glaring at Riku.]

I was trying to wake you! There's school today, or did you forget?

[The vampire is upset now and climbing off of the other. He's already dressed for school, crossing his arms as he keeps his back to the white haired youth.]

Get ready so I can get you out of here and pretend nothing happened yesterday.

[There's something of a groan as Riku sits up more, rubbing his face with a hand. Right. Shut. It's not the weekend yet.

He just got too comfortable here, he thought he was at Sora's.]

...Whatever. [He gets up and heads to the nearest bathroom, going to fix his hair and get himself looking more presentable. The bite on his hand isn't too deep, but he doesn't seem too bothered by it.]

You keep sitting on me for some reason and been using me as a personal pincushion. Kinda hard to pretend all that...

[Don't mind the little vamp looking in his kitchen for something humanly edible. For someone who has a functional house with plates and so on, there's not a single crumb... Roxas sighs to himself. Maybe keep some non-perishables around would be good for the future.

He looks over towards the bathroom with a slight glare. He can hear you, Riku. So he'll speak loud enough for the other to hear.]

Humans like touching each other and stuff. That's why I sit on you. If you rather I didn't, I won't do it again. [It's not like he should be letting himself get close to Riku in the first place. Riku is only food. That's it.] And I bit you because you pissed me off.

[He'll be fine until he can make it to school if anything. It's rather easy to mooch off Sora or Kairi considering how many times they've snagged snacks from him. Breakfast is important of course and he knows that, recognizing the emptiness of his stomach. But he won't necessarily hold it to the vampire to have things lying around that suit his human needs.

And besides, once he's finished in the bathroom, he does shive a few cold fries in his mouth. It's not great, but at least it's something until he can find his bike and make it to campus.]

It's fine. You're just... [How does he put this delicately. Roxas is still a stranger to him, and as popular as Riku might act around school, he really only appreciates being touched by his best friends. But he's not sure that explanation would go over well either. Not if he wants to continue being a living blood bank for Roxas.] ...kinda cold. Not something you really wanna wake up to in the morning.

[Grabs his bag and shoves his phone in it with a scoff. Dang, of course there's more missed messages from Sora than either of his parents. Typical.]

I apologize for having a social life and a best friend who usually does that to me. [Half a glare shot Roxas's way.]

Sit on me if you want. Doesn't matter. I'm just food anyways, right?

[Riku might be trying to put things delicately, but after years and years of listening to humans when they thought they couldn't be heard, Roxas can tell that hesitance and reason are a lie. If he had a beating heart he supposes it would hurt right now. That he'd blush from anger. Instead, his face remains passive.]

I won't anymore. All I need is to bite your wrist. I can just sit next to you or stand for that.

[It's been a long time since he's tried to be close to a person and it's backfiring like this. Then again, he can't remember what it's like to be human, so maybe this was inevitable. That he'd fail and drive a human away with trying to be more human.]

Come on. Let's get going. I can sniff out where you came into town since there was no rain. You rode a bike here, right?

[Riku keeps his face still and passive, but his eyes avoid looking directly at Roxas. He's not ashamed or embarrassed or even glad at this declaration. It's not that Riku was happy about being sat on like that, but there's something weird about the idea of being drained from the wrist. Something almost... impersonal?

Not that he's going to say that to the other right now. It's better that he tries to figure this out himself first. Maybe Roxas likes it on the neck better than the wrist? It's something that's just striking him now.

A sigh as he grabs his bag.] It's fine. Bite me wherever you like. It doesn't matter.

...Yeah, I did. If it's still there, it'll be outside the fence. If not, it's no big deal.

[It is impersonal. The wrist is reserved for Thralls as a sign of subjugation. In Riku's case? Roxas is getting the hint that getting close was a no go. So it's better this way. Keeping things impersonal. Keep himself from getting attached to someone who is supposed to be just food.]

No. The wrist is fine. It takes a little longer to get what I need, but it's fine. That way you can stay comfortable-[As much as being bit let Riku be.]-and it's easier to cover up.

[Roxas nods and opens the door, sniffing the air to catch a scent. When he does, he walks to where Riku had come from.]
