[thinking about his father... upsets him. for a big part of his life, regis was not there. riku might not remember it, but he was the one raising his youngest brother, especially after their mother had passed away. he tried--and failed--to be the father that he never had, and he wasn't even doing a good job as a brother, much less the crown prince, heir to the throne.]

[he doesn't know what kind of relationship riku and their father have, mostly because he hasn't wanted to be involved in it. he has his own issues, and being allowed to have this much freedom and independence has basically cemented and solidified the rift between them.]

[noctis is too scared to cross it. noctis is too scared to ese his father, older and weaker, of affirming a purpose to his son that said son wants to not think about--refuses to think about.]

[Riku's not dumb. He knows there's a rift between his brother and father. It's been there for years, brewing and forcing them farther apart. His own relationship with their dad, the king, might be a bit more healthy than Noct's, but there's only so much time you can spend with a man who meets with other nobles and dignitaries.

He's always just understood that it was just the way things were, and he was allowed to have his own freedom and choices to make. But that doesn't stop the younger brother from wanting to feel like his family is whole.

He wishes there was no rift and no awkward distance between them, but he has never felt so powerless and lost before.]

You better. I'm holding you to it or I'm warping over to your place and dragging your sorry butt with me.
